The Behavior and Education Supports (BES) program serves students identified with an emotional disability or challenging behaviors that interfere with learning. Each classroom provides a safe, structured environment with an emphasis on Common Core-aligned instruction, and students follow the same reading/math progress monitoring as general education.
Each BES classroom has three trained staff members: a certified special education teacher, an instructional paraprofessional, and a behavior technician. Marie Reed has two BES classrooms, serving grades 1–3 and 3–5.
Students in BES classrooms are included in the general education environment to the greatest extent possible — lunch, recess, specials, assemblies, and field trips — with the goal of building the academic, social, and behavioral skills needed to re-enter the general education classroom full-time.
