K-5 Curriculum

Math & English Language Arts (ELA)

To meet Common Core State Standards, DCPS uses the Eureka Math curriculum districtwide, along with its own thematic ELA/literacy curriculum. DCPS publishes curriculum guides and Common Core-aligned parent roadmaps for math (grades K–5) to help families support learning at home.

Social-Emotional Curriculum

Marie Reed uses Second Step as its Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum, helping children build confidence, set goals, make decisions, and collaborate with others. The school also follows Conscious Discipline, a schoolwide approach to building positive culture — students build classroom community each morning, and teachers focus on helping students self-regulate rather than relying on warnings and consequences.
