Before Care
Marie Reed’s Before Care program is sponsored by the PTO, offered daily for PK3–5th graders from 7:00–8:00am in the Legacy Walk (18th Street entrance). Students do quiet reading, coloring, or peer homework help before being dismissed to the playground or indoor recess at 8:00am to meet their class.
Before Care is not offered on observed holidays, school breaks, or non-school days. Space is limited and registration is first-come, first-served.

After School Program
Marie Reed offers after-school programming through the DCPS Out-of-School Time Program (OSTP) for preschool through 5th grade, combining learning, enrichment, and free play in a safe, nurturing environment. OSTP at Marie Reed is overseen by our Afterschool Coordinator, Walter Castillo ([email protected]).
Enrollment
Enrollment is online-only and completed on a computer (DC Public Libraries have computers available if needed). Space is limited and filled first-come, first-served, so enroll by the DCPS deadline to secure a slot.
Schedule
OSTP runs daily from 3:15–6:00pm (no program the school day immediately before Thanksgiving, Winter, or Spring break). The general structure is snack time, a “Power Hour” of supplemental instruction/homework help with teachers, then enrichment activities and free play, with dismissal from 5:45–6:00pm via the 18th Street entrance.
Enrichment Activities
Enrichment offerings change year to year and have included piano lab, soccer (DC Scores — founded at Marie Reed!), robotics and coding, basketball, dance, chess club, and partnerships with local organizations like Sitar Arts Center and Georgetown University’s DC Schools Project.
Other After-School Options
- The DC JCC offers pickup from Marie Reed with transportation to their aftercare and enrichment programs.
- Sitar Arts Center offers after-school art classes for grades K and up.
- The Marie Reed Recreation Center (DC Parks & Recreation) offers after-school programming — register at the Rec Center office.
