A quick reference for PK3 and PK4 families who are new to Marie Reed.
What is ECE?
ECE stands for Early Childhood Education, encompassing PK3 and PK4.
What’s the daily schedule?
Drop-off on the Ontario Road playground begins around 8:10am. At 8:45am, students gather in classrooms for breakfast, followed by morning circle time (stories, songs, activities). Lunch is served midday, followed by a nap. Afternoons include “make-believe play” and small-group work (Tools of the Mind curriculum), outdoor recess, and enrichments (library, science, music, art, PE) before dismissal at 3:15pm.
Will my child take a nap?
Yes — PK3 and mixed PK3/PK4 classes nap 90 minutes; PK4 classes nap 60 minutes, after lunch, on school-provided cots. A blanket or comfort item from home is welcome.
What supplies does my child need?
A backpack, water bottle, and any naptime comfort item daily, plus a change of season-appropriate clothes kept in their cubby. The school provides all other supplies.
How will the school communicate with me?
- Mass emails and robo-calls (check with the main office if you’re not receiving these, or in the wrong language)
- Academic Parent Teacher Team (APTT) meetings, four times a year
- The Parent Square app — search for your teacher’s name to join their class
- Anytime you request a meeting
